Jan. 28, 2021 (Mitchellville, Maryland) — Over the past month, Collington Lifecare Community has inoculated hundreds of residents and team members at the suburban Washington, D.C., retirement community. In partnership with CVS pharmacists, Collington vaccinated over 650 individuals within 22 hours over two days, Jan. 16–17. Those clinics provided second doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for skilled nursing neighborhood residents and team members, plus first doses of Pfizer’s vaccine for 95% of independent living residents.
“Completion of these vaccination clinics has been a wonderful collaboration with residents, team members and our CVS partners. It certainly speaks to the true meaning of community that is at the heart of Collington,” said Megan Barbour, Collington’s COO.
Collington was among the first Maryland retirement communities to launch its COVID-19 vaccination campaign. Collington team members mobilized immediately after getting a call Dec. 18 advising them that a CVS pharmacy team would be there the morning after Christmas to begin immunizing residents and team members. More than 150 team members and 98% of Collington’s skilled nursing neighborhood and assisted living residents got their first shots of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine that Saturday, Dec. 26. The group got its second Pfizer doses Jan. 16.
“These were shots of hope, a significant step toward a brighter future together in 2021,” said Collington’s CEO Ann Gillespie.
A final clinic to administer second doses of the Pfizer vaccine to independent living residents is slated for Feb 6 and 7.
